Ryanair Engineering are currently recruiting for a Safety Engineer to join the Base / Heavy Maintenance teams working exclusively on Ryanair Group aircraft.
To support the strengthening of Safety Management System (SMS) principles and local ownership of safety, we are seeking a licensed B1or B2 Engineer to act as the focal point for occurrence investigation at base level in Heavy Maintenance.
This role sits within the maintenance organisation, reporting to the Base Maintenance Manager, ensuring that Engineering Safety Reports (ESRs) and occurrences are investigated by competent, operationally experienced personnel. The role works in close collaboration with the Safety Department to ensure consistency, quality, and regulatory compliance.
The safety engineer shall have access to all levels of management and production to complete their duties.
The ideal candidate is an experienced, proactive engineer with strong analytical capability and a commitment to continuous safety improvement.
Please note, this role can be based across any of the Heavy Maintenance sites with the successful candidate being employed locally at the chosen site

Key Responsibilities
You will play a central role in maintaining and improving the Safety Management System (SMS), including:
- Investigation of maintenance errors;
- Investigating and reviewing aircraft incidents linked to technical events;
- Investigating and reviewing events and occurrences with potential impact on the safety of the Ryanair and Heavy Maintenance operation;
- Administration of the safety occurrences on the Safety reporting system;
- Preparing reports and documents;
- Coordinating safety report response amongst production staff.
- Identify hazards, support risk assessments, and track the implementation of risk‑mitigation actions.
- Assist with communication on safety matters with internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the development of safety related materials (presentations, newsletters, briefings, visual content).
- Work closely with Compliance Monitoring, Technical Standards, Maintenance Management, Maintenance Personnel and other departments to support continuous improvement and safe operations.
Requirements
Essential Requirements
- EASA B1 or B2 Licence
- Analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Clear and confident communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent communication skills
- Hold (or able to obtain) airport security clearance.
- Valid passport with unrestricted travel rights within the UK/EU and a valid driver’s licence.
Desirable (Training Can Be Provided)
- Knowledge of aviation safety standards and safety investigation methods.
- Basic understanding of EASA/UK CAA regulations.
- Familiarity with Safety Management System (SMS) principles.
- Experience with root cause analysis.
- Knowledge of continuous improvement techniques.‑improvement techniques.
- Willingness to travel within the HM bases and RYR network.
